| HOMESTORE.COM, INC., OPERATOR OF
REALTOR.COM®, TO OFFER REAL ESTATE PROFESSIONALS CHOICE
FOR IMAGING SOLUTIONS
Homestore.com Begins Working With Two
Leading Operators to Integrate Additional Virtual Tour Technology
into Realtor.com®
Westlake Village, CA - April 30, 2001 - Homestore.com,
Inc. (Nasdaq: HOMS), today announced that it will launch
a new program to allow professionals to post virtual tours
from multiple tour operators on award-winning Realtor.com®,
the official site of the National Association of Realtors®.
As a first step, Homestore.com has agreed to work with two
leading virtual tour providers, ImageMaker360, a division
of Access Technologies, and VideoHomeTours.com on a test
basis, to offer more imaging options to the industry, benefiting
both real estate professionals and their customers.
The goal of Homestore.com's program is
for agents to be able to enhance their listings with the
tour technology of their choice, thereby helping to attract
more viewers to their online property offerings. Just as
Realtors® draw attention to their listing in a newspaper
by adding a picture, as planned, this program would enable
professionals to improve their online listing with a 3600
virtual tour - an online open house. More importantly, because
of the immense number of viewers visiting Realtor.com®,
digital imaging on a listing could help agents and brokers
generate leads and market and sell more properties.
Over the coming months, Homestore.com
will begin to accept virtual tours from qualified technology
providers for display on Realtor.com®. By doing so,
the company will host and display virtual tours submitted
by a variety of virtual tour providers to its family of
Web sites, fulfilling its commitment to ensure a continued
high-level quality experience for the consumer and consistency
across the professional's own site - Realtor.com®. To
catch a consumer's eye, virtual tours will be promoted on
Realtor.com® through ads in the form of an icon on the
listing and capabilities that allow the consumer to select
tour-enhanced properties. In addition, through Realtor.com's®
i-LEAD Web site product, customers will have a tool
to facilitate adding images and posting tours on their i-LEAD
pages, as well as new opportunities for attracting consumers
through the virtual tour. Homestore.com will charge a service
fee to process, host, display and distribute virtual tours
on Realtor.com®.
"We're committed to helping professionals
accelerate the growth of virtual tours across the Internet
to better serve the millions of consumers viewing properties
online," stated Steve Ozonian, president of Realtor.com®.
"Virtual tours deliver a more informed and interested
home buyer to our customers. It's a picture perfect solution
for Realtors®."
During the test period, Homestore.com
will collaborate closely with operators - including ImageMaker360
and VideoHomeTours.com -- to develop the functionality and
quality guidelines for accepting other technologies into
Homestore.com's family of Web sites and begin integrating
other technologies over the next 90 days. Homestore.com's
initiative will offer the professional clients of ImageMaker360
and VideoHomeTours.com from some of the top brokerage firms
the option to display their tours on Realtor.com®. During
this initial period, Homestore.com will also evaluate other
providers who offer virtual tour services to the real estate
market.
"We use a variety of technologies
to create virtual tours and our customers have overwhelmingly
been requesting that those tours be placed on Realtor.com.
I look forward to telling our clients that we will assist
them in having an easy and reliable way to enhance their
listings with virtual tours on the number one real estate
site in the nation," said Brian Balduf, chief executive
officer of VideoHomeTours.com.
"We look forward to working with
Realtor.com on this issue. I believe their initiative is
good for both professionals and consumers and that they
are committed to a solution that balances choice with their
desire to maintain a high quality site for the industry,"
stated Sarah Morgan, vice president, ImageMaker360.
Consumer-friendly virtual tours and still
photography services are some of the most popular marketing
tools for the purchase, sale, rent, or lease of real estate
on the Internet. Realtor.com® is the most popular online
real estate site in the nation, attracting millions of unique
users to the largest listing base of real estate property
ever created for consumers and professionals. Since acquiring
real estate assets from iPIX in January, Homestore.com has
launched its own virtual tour product - HomeTour3600 --
and continues to work with iPIX and global imaging giant
Kodak to enhance the professional's ability to capture,
process, edit and post tours on online property listings.
Over the coming months these alliances will help in the
development of next generation virtual tour solutions as
well as improve the quality of the end product for both
professionals and consumers.
